In reference to the shape on the Never Summer Descent Classic Flex Complete. Many of the shapes are chosen for personal preference and stability while cruising. Shorter length boards will react faster (turn quick) versus longer boards that are used more for carving and pushing distance. Many have a kick tail to pop the board up when stopping and, some drop lower to the ground between the trucks for a lower center of gravity at high speed carving (downhill racing). Then lastly a few are just shaped in odd shapes for the look, like the Santa Cruz Screaming Foot complete.
