In my opinion, a longboard has a more stable platform where beginners might find this easier to ride. Plus your basically just 'cruisin' with the deck and shouldn't be concerned with tricks, so this is a plus for those starting out as well. Keep in mind what style of riding you really want to be doing though. If you think you do want to learn trick riding or ride rails and such, you may want to consider a smaller set up.
